21st Century Design
Design, Science Fiction, Sculpture and Culture are the creative roots of 21st Century Design. Founded in England by a number of creative personalities during an Industrial Design course, the Studio dedicates particular attention to design culture, and organises exhibitions and conferences. Cristina Croce, Tommaso Ragnisco and Alessandro Spalletta, after their industrial design studies at I.S.I.A., Rome, have worked in various sectors, from Industrial Design to special effects for cinema. They also offer an opportunity for young designers, with a permanent showroom at Calcata Vecchia (Viterbo). Manuel Wijffels is a very young Dutch designer and artist, trained at Arnhem Art Academy and the Eindhoven Design Academy. While studying, he also developed an intense research activity, that enabled him to present his designs successfully in various competitions for the design of everyday objects: breadbox, schoolbag, CD box. His latest work is moving in various directions: the fashion sector, with the creation of clothing using alternative materials; research in the Internet world, by means of the design of special 3D interiors; and collaboration with the 21st Century Design team. The latter, highly significant experience gave rise to the innovative Gemmy design, a light idea conceived and made with Slamp.
