Office lighting for your workplace
A good lighting is important, specifically at the office desk or your working place. Writing and reading are demanding visual tasks and especially when working on the computer higher requirements are needed.
General lighting
For illuminating an office, general lighting, which is also installed in other rooms, can be used for an office. The better choice would be a "professional" fixture which uses a fluorescent tube. There is a wide range of professional desk lamps, which are both: decorative and functional. It is mostly important to avoid glare and reflections in screens or windows. To avoid direct glare or reflections, dimmable lamps should be positioned above head level of the person sitting underneath.
Desktop lamps
Numerous desktop lamps are available. Alternatively, wall sconces or floor lamps can be used. Desk lamps should be adjustable and pivotable. Glare can be avoided and the light can individually be adjusted. Besides the desk lamp, another light source should be used. A darker office and only one desk lamp can cause the light to reflect in the screen. The eyes are not able to change from the bright screen to the dark room without irritations. To ensure consistant brightness a second light source is recommended. Desktop lighting should be adjustable so right and left hander can work with glare-free and non-reflecting light. In general, for a right hander: the light should illuminate from the left side and vice versa.
